Record Room Revenue for The Balmoral

Edinburgh's luxury Balmoral Hotel is entering 2007 on a high, following a record-breaking business performance, which is up 22 per cent on the previous year.

This is largely due to a rising demand for the hotel's premium bedroom product, including luxury suites and castle-view bedrooms, which has led to a 16.5 per cent increase in the average room rate.

The hotel's wedding business has also performed extremely well - thanks to a 30 per cent increase in revenue - since being named best wedding hotel and top third wedding location in the world in The Independent's Guide to the 50 Best Wedding Locations last April.

The Balmoral's top ten markets include high-end visitors from the UK, Russia, Germany, Ireland and Switzerland, with one in four guests travelling from the USA.

The Balmoral - owned by hotel magnate Sir Rocco Forte - is recognised as the luxury hotel in Scotland. It is now attracting a sophisticated profile of guest who use the hotel's unrivalled concierge team to arrange specialist services such as private jets, personal chauffeurs, and butler services.

The landmark property has enhanced its product through further investment in its bedrooms, including the latest interactive flat-screen TV technology, as well as new dining concepts due to a growing demand for exclusivity and private in-room banqueting. The Balmoral has recently launched an exclusive in-room caviar menu and is offering a wide range of vintage champagnes in its glamorous Bollinger Bar - the only Bollinger Bar in the UK.

Debbie Taylor, The Balmoral's General Manager, who also chairs the Board of Edinburgh Convention Bureau Ltd and People 1st Scotland, commented: "We have enjoyed our best year ever, with outstanding business performance and room sales, and 25 prestigious awards. We have a business strategy in place to sustain this for 2007, including a dynamic sales and marketing plan, and an investment project which includes a bathroom refurbishment. Our key focus will, however, always remain on staff development and training in order to continue our exemplary service levels, which is necessary to service this high level of business."
