The Balmoral Launches Scottish Afternoon Tea
THE BALMORAL LAUNCHES SCOTTISH AFTERNOON TEA
Edinburgh, November 2012 – Rocco Forte’s The Balmoral has launched a special Afternoon Tea at the award-winning Palm Court in celebration of Scotland’s wealth of fine fayre. Guests and visitors will be able to savour some of the country’s favourite ingredients, with a selection of home-made cakes, scones and traditional finger sandwiches.
The Scottish Afternoon Tea includes local savoury delights such as Blairgowrie beef finger sandwiches with red onion marmalade on malted brown bread and Scottish smoked salmon sandwiches with cucumber and milled pepper.
A selection of cakes from The Balmoral bakery showcases some of the most famous Scottish ‘sweets’ including Dundee Cake, a traditional rich fruit cake; Scottish raspberry tartlets, a delicate pastry with plump local raspberries; and Irn-Bru macaroons, named after a sweet Scottish drink.
The Scottish Afternoon Tea would not be complete without plain and heather honey fruit scones with a selection of Scottish preserves. Legend has it that the scone, a traditional Scottish quick bread which is synonymous with Afternoon Tea, was named after the Stone of Destiny - known locally as the Stone of Scone - the place where Scottish kings were once crowned.
The Scottish Afternoon Tea is served with a wide selection of 20 loose-leaf teas including Royal Scottish Balmoral Blend and Famous Edinburgh. The cost of this special afternoon tea is £29.00 per person or £43 with a glass of Bollinger Champagne and will be available at Palm Court or the Drawing Room from 12noon- 5.30pm Monday to Sunday. The Scottish Afternoon Tea must be booked in advance. For more information or to book, contact The Balmoral’s Palm Court on 0131 556 2414 or email palmcourt.balmoral@roccofortehotels.com
